Biography

Ralph Ward received a PhD in biostatistics from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2017 and is a biostatistician with the Health Equity and Rural Outreach Innovation Center (HEROIC) at the Ralph H Johnson VA Healthcare System in Charleston SC.  Prior to this second career, he served in the US Navy for 30 years as an officer in the nuclear submarine force.  His research interests include health outcomes and health disparities research, including the development of improved approaches for handling missing data, summarizing patient comorbidities, and predicting patient risks using electronic medical record data. He has collaborated with a wide range of investigators in areas that include medication adherence, nicotine addiction and lung cancer screening, drug interactions, healthcare access, and risk prediction for adverse healthcare outcomes related to opioid use.
