I am an epidemiologist with extensive experience in novel analytic approaches leveraging the dynamic data collected across the nationwide Veterans Health Administration (VHA). I received my PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and I am trained in health informatics by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). My overarching research interest is improving the efficiency of processes of clinical care. This has led me down paths of surgical outcomes research, quality assessment, and decision support tools. I have a long history of collaboration with other VHA researchers (15+ years) on a multitude of studies. Some of my most significant research impacts have been in the area of surgical outcomes research and cardiovascular epidemiology. I have also been funded by the American Heart Association in the form a mentored research award and I work closely with many clinician-scientists in order to create valid and impactful research.
