I. Finding and Using Healthcare Data

3. How can I use VA databases at the Corporate Franchise Data Center?

The VA Corporate Franchise Data Center (CFD) creates, manages, and stores thousands of clinical and administrative datasets. It was formerly known as the Austin Automation Center.

Users access the system through a time-share system called TSO. There are many options for viewing, accessing, and creating files through a combination of pre-specified menus, job control language (JCL), and SAS software. Some years ago a CFD user prepared instructions and sample programs for using SAS in the mainframe environment. The guide is available on request from HERC.
